One can quickly get lost or make a mistake when choosing THE right detergent among the hundreds of alternatives that exist. Each of them does not necessarily have the same properties, the same uses or the same composition. At a time when everything is moving very fast in society, when people sometimes don't take enough time to make their choice and go for the simplest, it is good to make a synthetic reminder.

Four enzymes for four types of residues

On the market, there are mainly four types of enzymes that act on four different residues :

  • Amylase, effective against mashed potato or chocolate stains, for example ;
  • Cellulase, acts indirectly on dirt in the form of "lint" (which contains other particles) ;
  • Lipase, to dissolve oil and grease stains (butter, lipstick, beauty products, etc.) ;
  • Protease, very useful against protein stains (eggs, grass, milk, blood, etc.)

They shine when it comes to washing clothes made of synthetic fibers, but beware of natural fibers.

What about natural fibers ?

When it comes to cotton, silk or wool, you should know that these materials naturally contain proteins ! This will cause problems - and not the least - with detergents containing enzymes because they do not make any difference between "stain" and "fiber".

As a result, over the course of several washes, fabrics containing these same proteins gradually disintegrate... It goes without saying that it is in your best interest to use enzyme-free detergent to wash your clothes : only this will preserve their properties in the long term.

What are the advantages and disadvantages ?

First of all, you should know that all detergents are made the same way. The difference between "with" and "without" enzymes is mainly in the proportion of the components.

CLASSIC DETERGENTORGANIC DETERGENT
ADVANTAGES

-Contains enzymes ;

-Useful for difficult washes ;

-Cleaner clothes even at low temperatures (eco-risponsable)

-No enzymes, therefore no risk of allergy ;

-Less aggressive to the skin and clothing

DISADVANTAGES-May cause allergies-Does not work well at low temperatures (therefore bad for the environment)

As you can see, the two types of laundry are complementary. Remember to sort your laundry and get organized to save your time and money !
